1Spatial announce MapRelate™, a spatial extension for AutoCAD® users.
30th April 2008, Cambridge, UK. 1Spatial today announced an innovative new extension to AutoCAD at the Spatial Conference 2008, 1 Source of Truth. MapRelate is a new complementary component for standard AutoCAD, that allows users to gain instant, live access to their local or corporately held spatial data from within their native AutoCAD environment.
Through the use of this simple extension, AutoCAD users can now combine or overlay their design data with real-time detailed spatial data without the need to translate or convert it into a different format. The solution is designed to improve design precision and provide a mechanism for architects, engineers and data administrators to meet legal and customer obligations at reduced costs.
MapRelate utilises the power and flexibility of Autodesk’s cross-platform FDO (Feature Data Objects) interface for truly live, independent access to geospatial data files and datastores of virtually any format. This allows CAD users to enjoy the benefit of sharing live corporate mapping databases, such as Ordnance Survey’s MasterMap® in the UK.
MapRelate provides real value by introducing the benefits of geospatial data to AutoCAD users in their familiar environment. This provides traditional CAD users with an initial stepping stone to the full power of Autodesk’s geospatial AutoCAD Map 3D 2009 platform.
Graham Stickler, Product and Marketing Director of 1Spatial commented:
“Through working closely with Autodesk and our customers we have identified the opportunity to simply and cheaply introduce AutoCAD users to geospatial data as a precursor to a cross-grade to the AutoCAD Map3D 2009 platform. The development of our MapRelate product now allows organisations to take a simple step towards integrating integrating the GIS and CAD environments by providing maps to native AutoCAD users through a simple but effective AutoCAD extension.”
Autodesk’s Pete Baxter, AEC Sales Director Northern Europe, said:
“We are excited about the opportunity to migrate AutoCAD users towards the full power of AutoCAD Map 3D software. This version of MapRelate will allow the AutoCAD community to gain an introduction to working with spatial data. This will enable them to understand the potential benefits of integrating CAD and GIS data as a stepping stone to the power of our AutoCAD Map 3D software.”
