Valtus Imagery Services, a division of North West Geomatics Ltd. announced today that its imagery library in central Alberta is being updated with the completion of a large 40 cm colour acquisition program undertaken by North West. Approximately 170,000 km2 covering all of central Alberta was acquired. The imagery, collected in the summer and fall of 2007, is 40cm true colour ortho and was collected with the Leica ADS40-II sensor. The area of new coverage is between Calgary and Lacombe and from the Saskatchewan border to the British Columbia border.

The Valtus Imagery Services online database currently holds over 2 million square kilometers of high resolution imagery across Canada and the United States. Valtus provides annual subscriptions to seamlessly stream imagery directly into GIS and CAD Desktop Applications. In addition, Valtus hosts imagery on behalf of our customers allowing for wide distribution of reliable imagery web services.

“We continue to update the Valtus database with newer and higher resolution imagery. This large program continues with our systematic update program for our entire database. Based on direction from our customers, all new imagery added to the library will be 50cm or better resolution,” explains Kenyon Waugh, Valtus’ chief strategy officer.
“This update program began in the south in 2006 and is now continuing north. All acquisition is being undertaken with the new Leica ADS40-II sensor. This second generation technology provides higher quality imagery and a wider range of potential deliverables to our customers”, says Waugh “All of North West’s ADS40 imagery sensors have been upgraded to this second generation technology”.

The first updated 50cm imagery is now on-line and the remaining 40cm will be progressively up-loaded to Valtus over the next 6 weeks. A coverage map of Valuts Imagery can be found on Valtus’ website. The higher resolution imagery being collected by North West is being supported with a higher density auto-correlated digital surface model to facilitate the newer imagery.
